The photos you bother to look back on are the ones that have the people you care about, including yourself. Or the ordinary places and daily habits you didn't think to take pics of, like my old college flatmates and our dingy apartment. Wish I had some photos of it to remember the simpler times lol.

I decided then that I'd always try and get someone in my photos even if it was just a selfie (although I don't think we said selfies yet). At least now we can take photos of both without wasting resources, but I won't waste much time trying to get the perfect shot of a landscape or monument because I know I can pretty much always find a better picture of it online anyway and the easiest way to make my photo of the same thing unique is to take a selfie with it.
